There are things however that can be done to move away from the grip of depression. Here are a few that you can depend on when you are depressed.
Go to Church
Attending church is the perfect mood raising activity. As we go through the challenges of life God can become an obvious refuge for us. In the words of the prophet TB Joshua, “See challenges as a blessing, not an enemy. Look at me. I refuse to quit because of challenges; my challenges turn to blessings!” So we are taught to look at all issues we have including depression as an opportunity to get closer to God. Being in a house of worship amongst others who are there to enjoy love and fellowship places you in an environment built around the things the take you feel good. So make a plan to go to church like and while you are their read along in the Bible and sing the church songs with the congregation. Do not worry about whether or not you can sing or even if you know the words, just enjoy the feelings of love that God has provided for you.
Take on something new
Depressed people are stuck in a rut and have a difficult time finding a way out. The best way to get out of a rut is to push yourself to do something different. Do try new things and different things. If you are not into sports, go to a sporting event. If you are not big on culture, try an art gallery or museum. Go to a museum. Read a book on a topic that you would not normally seek out. Volunteer at an orphanage. Take a class in cooking if you cannot cook. The idea is that when you break out of a routine, you actually create chemical changes in the brain and the levels of dopamine, which is associated with pleasure and enjoyment increase. This can lift you out of a depression.
Exercise is a known mood lifter and according to science, there is no better way to beat the blues. Whether you walk on the beach, jog in a park, hit the weights in a gym, take a Zumba or other type of aerobics, class, Play a team sport like hockey or softball, swim, or even go rollerblading in a park, you’re going to feel good. Try getting outside to exercise when you can because being in nature provides you with fresh air and beautiful scenery, which are also great mood boosters.
Cardiovascular exercises releases endorphins, epinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine – the chemicals that make you feel great. They start getting released nearly immediately and the more you exercise, the more your body will discharge these feel-good chemicals.

Getting out of depression can occur as you see yourself get some things accomplished. So do yourself a great favor and set some goals for yourself that you can attain. When you reach these goals, you will feel empowered. Do this on a daily basis.

Also since depression can sometimes cause people to overeat and then become more depressed from the extra pounds that have gained, eating healthy is a smart thing to do to combat your feeling down about yourself.
